As I mentioned the other day, I changed this
home page to a
data-driven news feed that displays news items 10 records at a time.
When I did this, my Google AdSense clicks increased. However, the Google
Ads stopped appearing on the home page for a long periods of time.
It is just the home page and one other dynamic driven page that this happens on.
I believed the reason why this was happening was because of the number of ads
I was displaying versus the fact that there are not that many
hunting ads targeted to New York. I decided to try AJAX as I really did not
want to change the design given the increased AdSense success. After
implementing AJAX, the ads stopped disappearing for long periods of time
and clicks never changed. In fact, they may be even better with a better
CTR% no less :)
However, I am still finding that the ads disappear from the home page
once it a while but for shorter lengths of time and not as often. I wrote
to Google about it but they have yet to respond.
I think there were/are two problems. The one I mentioned above and the fact that
they disappear soon after I add a new post to the home page.
Many out there with AdSense experience know that when you first put a new ad
on a site it will not appear for a few minutes. This same behavior is what I
am experiencing right now. After I post something new there seems to be a period
a few minutes later when no ads appear on the home page. Then they come back
and everything is fine. Until I change something again, of course.
I cannot set any of this in stone. I cannot find any other information on it.
One thing I do notice is how fast my new pages appear in Google. They have been
showing up within hours. At 3:00 AM last night I added a post about bear
hunting maps in New York. By noon today I was #1 for "New York Bear Hunting Map".
That's cool!
Given the fact that Google is coming back so often to index content, I may pay a
price for a short period of time if the home page contents change. Only one other
dynamic, often changing Web page on the site does this. The rest of them never do.
Here we go with trade-offs again. If the above is the case then so be it.
I have a lot more pages than just the home page. Unless I am or until I find that
I am way off base here I am going to live with it. Maybe I will only update
new content at night or early in the morning as to not disrupt the ads.
Again, total speculation. If it helps someone then great. I will keep everyone posted
if anything changes.
